It goes like this:
(Man and woman on a Japanese train)
Man: So we're travelling for hours to see flowers???
Woman: Yes.
Man: This better be good.
Woman: (looks at him annoyingly)
(Man and woman arrived in a wisteria tunnel)
Man: (cries with joy over the sight of wisteria)
Woman: (looks at him puzzled)
The artist then explained how it was truly his reaction when he first saw a wisteria tunnel. It was so beautiful. I definitely agree with him. I could even say that it's more beautiful than the cherry blossoms. The dropping flowers of wisteria gives a fairy-tale quality to a place. It just looks so whimsical.
So where can you see this whimsical wisteria?
In Hamamatsu, you can find wisteria on the grounds of Gyokoji Temple, Iwata. I visited this place yesterday and the wisteria are in full bloom. Perfect timing!

Check Yuya no Nagafuji for more details. The bus from Toyodacho Station to the temple is free. There's no entrance fee.
Last year, I went to Fujieda City, Shizuoka. There's a Wisteria Festival in Rengeji Park until May 5th. The park is spacious with slides and play area. We visited during the Golden week and there were lots of people. The wisteria were almost at its end so its better to visit this week.
Check Green Tea Club for more details. You can access this park by bus from Fujieda Station.
In Tokyo, Tokyo Time Out listed several places you can visit for Wisteria. Most of the places ae in shrines and temples.
However, the best places to see Wisteria are in Tochigi and in Kitakyushu. They're quite far but the wisteria display are spectacular.
